Homework is assignments that are extended outside the classrooms. It is one of the many ways of developing organizational and self-discipline skills.

Homework assignments primarily include:

  • Additional practice and drills to enhance or boost skills that have already been introduced in the classroom.
  • Guided reading of literature that the teacher has assigned.
  • Activities of research that are done to locate vital information for learning purposes.
  • Work on a project or report for a long-term result.
  • Study and get ready for quizzes, exams, or tests.

The homework that students get assigned daily follows a general rule that entails the students in grades 7 and 8 take at least 60 to 90 minutes doing their homework. It is because most people have different ways of study and other times that they are consciously awake. Therefore, how one particular student spends his time working on a given assignment may differ from the time that they are other classmates use.

Homework assignments may get assigned every week or on the weekend. Since homework has been specially designed to be a tremendous and meaningful extension of teaching within the classroom, students are usually held responsible for their assignments and submit their projects on time before the deadline. For the students who failed to submit a completed homework that is of quality, the teachers will expect them to complete the assignment mainly during the afternoon but offer time for students to complete their work. They can also complete the project in the evening while at home or the following morning in a homework session. The students that failed to finish their assignments on the second day have to face their teachers, and they will be made to attend school for the second time on the second day.

Students are also responsible for having and creating connections with their teachers regarding some makeup work for the assignments they missed.
